Mediocre News - Not The Best Reporting Ever For Sure

Lady Welthie's Diamonds Stolen!

On May 2nd, 1885, Lady Welthie got home from the theatre, got back to her mansion and had her dinner, and went to get something from her safe, only to discover that almost all her precious jewellery had been stolen! The combination lock was open, and the safe was unharmed otherwise.

Even though she is very wealthy, Lady Welthie could unfortunately not get the best consulting detective in the world, Sherlock Holmes, to help.

"It simply isn't an interesting enough case for me," said Mr. Holmes. "It's too obvious who the criminal is. It's clearly-"

Our reporter, Rob, got promptly attacked by a flock of geese and hence could not get the rest of Mr. Holmes' statement.

Lady Welthie has hired someone she refers to as "Detective Flowers, the second best consulting detective in the world." We do not know who this person is.

Botller

Lady Welthie's butler, Botller, was one of the only people present in the house when she was at the theatre. Botller's family has worked for the Welthie family for generations. Lady Welthie trusts him with everything, including the combination of all her safes.

"It is a dishonor to me to even be considered a suspect." Botller appeared worried when he found out about the theft. "I am disappointed in myself for letting this happen. The Welthie family has always taken good care of my family."

Botller claims he was far away from Lady Welthie's safe, setting up the table in the dining hall for dinner.

"I'm an amazing butler, if I do say so myself," says Botller.

Lady Welthie had her dinner once she got home and said that the table was set up meticulously and perfectly. Especially the spoons.

"I love spoons! I polish each one before setting it into place," Bottle informed Rob, while polishing a spoon. "It takes hours, but it's worth it."

Shef

Ms. Shef has been the chef for the Welthie family for over 40 years. She is an expert cook, able to make complicated dishes after one close inspection and tasting.

Our reporter, Rob, asked if she was behind the vial of poison found under the kitchen table.

"Ha!" said Ms. Shef. "As if I would use a pre-made poison! I would be able to recreate that whole bottle after tasting just one drop!"

Shef claimed that she was running back and forth between the dining hall and kitchen to put the dishes on the table while Lady Welthie was gone , because Botller wouldn't help with the dishes.

"That fool Botller doesn't care about anything but cutlery. He sent a whole hour setting up the spoons. Table spoons, tea spoons, fish spoons, dessert spoons, coffee spoons, jam spoons, soup spoons- I didn't even make any soup for Lady Welthie's dinner!"

Lady Welthie says Shef is hard-working and dedicated, but a bit of a show-off and tends to feel extremely insulted when people underestimate her.

Gardner

Gardner spends all day pruning the hundreds of plants outside and inside the house. He claimed to be working on gathering fresh flowers for the vases.

"Miss Welthie loves carnations. I'd only just brought them inside when she entered. I set them in the vase while had dinner and I went to my quarters to sleep once I was done."

The other people working for Lady Welthie could not verify where Gardner was during most of the time that she was at the theatre, despite his insistence that he wasn't in the house at all.

Housie

Housie is the housekeeper for Lady Welthie's mansion.

"I was ironing Miss Welthie's dresses. She has to go to an important meeting tomorrow. Something about the sugar trade."

Lady Welthie trusts her a lot, but acknowledges she can be a bit absentminded at times.

"Housie's got a good heart, you know. She can just be a bit foolish. I trust her though. She doesn't mean any ill."
